Greve in
Chianti
The ancient triangular Piazza
with the classical facade of the parish church of Santa Croce, where
market is held every Saturday, is an absolute must as an excursion destination.
On Easter Monday, it hosts an antique market, in May, there is a sales
exhibition of flowers and plants, and in September it hosts the largest
Chianti trade show in the area. Giovanni de Verrazano is found at the
Piazza. The castle of his family is located just outside the village
on a hillside and is now a famous winery. In the surroundings of Greve
some large wineries are located, which produce the DOCG Chianti Classico,
but also interesting table wines and IGT wines from different grape
varieties. Without having seen the Castle of Montefioralle, one should
not leave Greve in Chianti. Montefioralle was originally a fortress
and you can still feel the charm of a bygone era.
