the history
Cosimo
I., duke of Florence and grand duke of Tuscany, let build under the
management of Gerolamo Marsuppini the MEDICEAN HOUSE CALLAIOLA, i.e.
“island on the hill”. The work began on the 24th May 1570
and has continued till today. It became a place of pleasures and hunting'
s of the Medicean court. He chosed it not only for the beauty of the
places but also because of the commanding strategic position of Cerreto
Guidi. Nowadays the farmyard “Isola Verde” invites for peaceful
and restful holidays in the Tuscan landscape. In Cerreto Guidi, just
a few minutes distance by car, guests will find several bars, restaurants
and a Medici-Villa (museum). The small village Vinci, Leonardos’
birthplace, is located also in easy reach (appr. 5 km). There is a museum
with the models of the ingenious inventor and artist, which made a large
contribution for the modernization of our age.
